14 years and not a bit boring! The LRP-HPI-Challenge was again a big rendezvous of the best drivers of all Challenge classes. Fans and drivers experienced thrilling racing at the RCCT Münden club.
Also the 14th final event of the LRP-HPI-Challenge stayed true to its image: family-friendly, easy-going and extremely thrilling. More than 150 drivers started on the technically demanding track of the RC-Car-Team Münden to crown the best of the best in the Rookie, Classic, 17.5T and Stock classes.
The LRP-HPI-Challenge is Germany’s biggest race series. In the 2012/13 season, 1230 different racers started at 97 races. The final event was Germany’s biggest National Championship with 150 different starters. Racers were not allowed to start in more than one class. Due to the LRP standard equipment, the LRP-HPI-Challenge stands for fair racing at low costs.
The Rookie-Challenge is the perfect entry for hobby racers into R/C competition racing. Especially remarkable this year: many girls and women had registered for the LRP-HPI-Challenge. A very welcome development!
Martin Ciongawa dominated the event from qualification to the final. Only Nils Kufalk was partly able to keep it up with his pace and finished second. Jolene Henning – one of the above mentioned female starters – crossed the line third.
In accord with the regulations, the podium drivers have to start in one of the faster Challenge classes in the new season.

The Classic-Challenge lived up to its name. Eye-catching body shells and tight duels in the complete field!
The final proved to be extremely thrilling. Pole setter Jochen Janik won the first final ahead of Ian Schacht and Matthias Poggensee. A2 saw Jochen dropping out, giving Ian the possibility to win. The last run had to bring the decision. Jochen and Ian drove wheel to wheel until Jochen’s car got involved into a crash with a car that he tried to lap. So, Ian Schacht was the lucky winner of the race, ahead of Jochen Janik and Matthias Poggensee.

The 17.5T-Challenge was again the largest class. Many drivers were on almost the same level, resulting in tight qualification runs and extra-class finals. There were four contenders for the title.
In A1, pole setter Sebastian Meibörg finished fourth, while Moritz Flügge took the victory. The second final went better for the top qualifier: he drove to a hard-fought victory ahead of Thimo Weissbauer who had qualified fifth and Oliver Günther. So, the last final had to bring the decision. Four drivers still had the chance to win. Everybody could witness a real drama. Thimo Weissbauer won the run and seemed to be this year’s champion. Totally happy and excited about his victory, he missed to bring his car to the technical inspection. Consequently, he got disqualified and Sebastian Meibörg took the title ahead of Moritz Flügge and Oliver Günther.

The Stock-Challenge is the fastest class of the LRP-HPI-Challenge with top speeds of almost 60km/h – also on the tight track in Münden. Many decisions in qualification were made within only some thousands of a second.
Local driver Kevin Blume proved to be the man of the weekend taking profit from his home-field advantage. In A1, he overtook top qualifier Lars Hoppe and drove to victory. The second final already brought the decision. Again, TQ Lars wasn’t able to keep it up with the pace of Kevin who celebrated an early victory in the Stock-Challenge. By winning A3, Lars Hoppe secured the second place overall ahead of Sascha Speck.
