BRCA Round 3 - Halifax

Wed, 8th August 2012

Report by Andy Moore Round 3 of the BRCA national championships took place at the huge fast and flowing Halifax track a few weeks ago. Due to other international race commitments I was unable to test at this venue prior to the race weekend so although I was clearing pushing for the win I knew a top 3 would be a solid points hall for the overall championship.

Tyre strategy plays a big part at this track as fresh rubber gives you a real big advantage. I chose to try and only use 1 set of tyres for the 5 rounds of qualifying and take 2 sets into the triple A mains. This worked out pretty good and despite everyone else around me on the grid using up 2 of their 3 allowed sets I would still line up 4th on the grid. Final 1 had a good start from 4th on the grid and during a fight for the lead the cars in front came together. I almost squeezed by but got tangled in there accident and ended up finishing 2nd. Final 2 had another good start and was straight up to 2nd again but during to second lap had a very strange spin on the long double left infield section which put me in the grass and out of the running. Final 3 everyone pulled away in quali order and it stayed like this until around the 4 min mark where I made a pass for 2nd but unfortunately ran out of time to catch Chris Grainger who had lead from the start. With 2 x 2nd I finished up 3rd overall.
