HPI Flux Pro Electronics Take Another Double Win!

Mon, 2nd July 2012

Craig Collinson does the double at round 4 of North East Regional series using HPI electrics! Last weekend Dynamix raceway hosted the 4th round of the North East Regional series. Dynamix Raceway is a new venue that's only been open for around 3 months, so it was interesting to see what the track was like. Lots of work from the club members has gone into building the track over the last 18 months, and the club have done a fantastic job in creating a great 1/10th off road astro track.

Nasty Weather! As per usual the weather has been terrible in England, and the forecast for the weekend didnt look too promising. But just like the previous round at Batley they got the forecast totally wrong! Saturday was dry nearly all day, apart from a brief shower in round three of qualifying and Sunday was much of the same. 2WD This regional was a two day event, with 2WD on Saturday and 4wd on Sunday. In practice my buggy was initially struggling on the super high grip astro, with the front end wanting to run far too much. As it was open practice I was able to test out some different set ups in order to dial out some initail steering. I was able to do this really quickly by going to a longer front camber link, thicker shock oil and moving the shocks to the inner hole on the tower. I went out for my last practice run and my buggy was transformed!!! The car was so easy to drive and with the initial steering dialled out i was able to push the car hard into corners, without fear of traction rolling. Qualifying I felt confident going into qualifying, after how good my car felt after practice. My confidence was on an all time high after I took the TQ spot in the opening round. In round 2 I had a good run, but unfortunately the one and only rain shower of the day fell on our heat! Even though I won my race I finished 5th overall in round, as the previous heats were able to take advantage of the dry track. For the next two rounds the rain stayed away and the track remained dry. I was able to go 1st in each of the last two rounds to put me pole in the A-main! 2WD Final - Aced It! In the final I got off to a clean start going into the first corner, but then ran slightly wide going over the tabletop. This allowed Greg Williams to sneak up the inside and take the lead. I followed Greg for a couple of laps before he made a mistake of his own putting me back into the lead. I never looked back after that and was able to extend my lead from 2nd place up to 11 seconds by the time I crossed the line to take the win!! By securing the win I also secured the overall 2WD North East Regional series with one round to spare. 4WD On Sunday we woke up to a wet track as the rain had come down quite heavy over night, but the track had no standing water and racing was able to commence. I only went out for one practice run as the car felt so good and no set up changes were needed. Qualifying Again just like in 2WD, I felt confident with my car going into qualifying and I was able to take the TQ spot in rounds 1 and 2. In round 3 the rain came down heavy during my run and I thought this was going to be a bad round score. To my surprise the car didnt feel all that different going round the soaking track, and I was able to still finish 1st in round, almost beating my quickest time of the day in the dry! The last round was delayed due to a huge shower which left standing water all over the track. Much praise must go out to Dynamix raceway for how quickly they were able to sweep and hoover the puddles off the track, getting it race ready again in less than an hour! I was able to take another 1st in the last round giving me the perfect score and overall TQ spot. 4WD Final - On To Victory! I was able to get off to a clean start in the final and managed not to make the same mistake over the tabletop that I did in 2WD. Stephen lawson was in 2nd and was able to stay with me for the first few laps. He made a slight error coming onto the straight which gave me some breathing room. I was able to settle down then and got into a nice rythm, pulling away from the chasing pack lap by lap. I had an error free final and crossed the line to take the win! HPI Electrics For The Win! I used the new Flux Pro Competition ESC both my 2WD & 4WD which really is awesome!! With so many easy to use set up options you really cant fail to find a set up to suit your driving style. The feel, power and breaks are superb! I also used HPI Plazma LiPo's, HPI Flux Pro motor, HPI Reactor 500 charger and HPI servos. The quality and range of HPI electrics are second to none!
